15 July 1815 - The Rosetta stone is found by the young engineer officer Pierre-François Bouchard

This was scientific breaktrough because the stele presents essentially the same text in all three scripts  - Ancient Egyptian, Demotic and Greek , thus it provided the key to the modern understanding of Egyptian hieroglyphs.

The first picture represents the found stele over the original of wich it might have been part of.

The second figure shows the scheme of the Rosetta stone.

And the last one is the painting "The 1798 Egyptian Expedition Under the Command of Bonaparte" by Leon Cogniet
